Looking for mailing list software

Does software exist that emulates the Bitnet interest-group mailing-list
functionalities on an Internet machine?  These functionalities include 
programs to automatically process various requests sent in by email, such as 
requests to be added or removed from the list, requests to have archived 
material sent, etc.

If it does exist, where can I get it?
