It seems obvious that in the fragment

{ ... bar(x++) ... }
bar(arg) { ... oldx = arg; ... }

arg is bound to the old value of x. Noting the value of x in this
case  involves  binding it to the formal parameter (pushing it on
the stack and executing the call). How else could  this  possibly
work? What else could "noting" mean in this context?
