What can you take the address of?

    What operands may the & (address of) operator be legally applied to?
Can it be applied to function parameters?  (Do machines that pass parameters
in registers have a problem with this?)  Can it be applied to structure 
members?  (Both of these are accepted by our compiler on our Vax, but I
can imagine machines where one or both might not be as straightforward
for the compiler).
