file manager on Mac IIx

I just started to write applications in Think C on Mac IIx but having trouble
in using the file manager.  It is not easy to get the volname from
getvol calls (or similar calls).  I guess the problem is to transform
the type from Pascal (Inside Mac) to Think C.  I am also confued by the 
conversion of the pointers.  Is there any ready to run
program demostrating how to use the file manager low level routines 
(get the default volume name, create a file, open a file, etc.)?
