The "pc-oid" style (occasionally called "ref/def" for references and
definition) pre-dates the IBM-PC.  The "unix-oid" (also known as
"common") style of course also pre-dates the IBM-PC.

The term "common" is meant in the fortran sense, rather than "usual".
