Thanks to all who responded.  I tried to reply to all individuals but some
e-mail bounced.

The following titles by Joe Campbell were also suggested:
"C programmers Guide to Serial Communnications" and
"Serial Communications for the C programmer."

Kermit sources are as follows:
anonymous ftp password guest

Zmodem sources try:
anonymous ftp password login
simtel20 26.2.0.74

file transfers require
binary
