scanf

I have been programming in C for almost 2 years, but have found the
scanf family of functions to be confusing.  Does anyone have addional
documentation or explaination about how [f|s]scanf works beyond the
manual page entries I have read.

I thought I was the only one confused sometimes about it's behavior,
but yesterday found that the other C programmer at my office also has
had trouble with this major function.
