                          Winter UNICOM 1983

                            Call for Papers

UNICOM is the conference and exhibition of the  _U_N_I_X*  community  spon-
sored  jointly  by /_u_s_r/_g_r_o_u_p, the _U_S_E_N_I_X _A_s_s_o_c_i_a_t_i_o_n, and the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
_T_o_o_l_s _U_s_e_r_s _G_r_o_u_p.  It will be held at the Town and  Country  Hotel  in
San Diego, California, January 25-28.

Presentations are invited in all areas  of  _U_N_I_X  and  Software  Tools.
General topics on which sessions are planned include:
     UNIX Applications
          Data Base Management Systems
          Office Automation, mail systems, word processing
          Graphics
          Games
     UNIX Developments
          _U_N_I_X networks and distributed systems
          Programming support environments
          Utilities and programming languages
          System management and performance issues
          Implementation and emulation of _U_N_I_X on new computer systems
     Software Tools
          Portability and standardization
          Extensions to the Virtual Machine
          New utilities and applications
     Marketing UNIX
          Market projections
          Comparisons with other operating systems
          New product descriptions
          Growing pains in commercialization

Abstracts must contain the following information:
     Title of presentation
     Full name of author
     Institution or company name
     Mailing address suitable for U S Postal Service
     Telephone number, hours available and, if available, a network mail address
     Intended audience (_T_o_o_l_s, technical, commercial, or joint)
     Audio-visual requirements

The submitted abstract should explain what is new and interesting about
the work and should not exceed 1000 words.  Abstracts _m_u_s_t be submitted
by October 29, 1982.  The Program Committee will notify authors of  ac-
ceptance by December 1, 1982.
