Abstracts are being accepted from individuals wishing to
present papers at the Summer 1987 USENIX Technical
Conference. Abstracts should be 250-750 words long,
emphasizing what is new and interesting about the work. The
final paper should be 8-12 pages when typeset.
Suggested topic areas include, but are not limited to:
o+ Kernel enhancements, measurements, etc.
o+ Programming languages and environments.
o+ UNIX in the office environment.
o+ Standards and portability.
o+ _N_e_w mail systems (e.g., X.400-based systems or user
interfaces incorporating new interface paradigms).
o+ Applications, especially unusual ones such as computer
aided music, factory automation, etc.
o+ Security.
o+ UNIX vs. the naive user.
o+ Workstations: comparisons, experiences, trends.
o+ Beyond UNIX -- what next?
Presentations by vendors should contain substantial
technical information and be of interest to the general
community.
All abstracts will be due by February 20, 1987. Electronic
submissions to _u_c_b_v_a_x!_p_h_o_e_n_i_x or _p_h_o_e_n_i_x at _B_e_r_k_e_l_e_y._E_D_U are
preferred. All abstracts should include your name, network
address (see below), and telephone number.
All authors whose abstracts are accepted must submit a paper
by the publication deadline or they will forfeit their talk.
We currently plan to strongly encourage electronic
submissions of final papers in _t_r_o_f_f format using the -_m_e,
-_m_m, or -_m_s macros and the _t_b_l, _e_q_n, and _p_i_c preprocessors.
_T_E_X and _S_c_r_i_b_e are available with limited fonts.

Please include your network address, if available, with
abstracts and all correspondence. This should be an Arpanet
address or a UUCP address relative to a well known host; if
in doubt, start from _m_c_v_a_x, _u_c_b_v_a_x, _d_e_c_v_a_x, or _s_e_i_s_m_o. Also
include a telephone number so you can be contacted in the
event of network difficulties. If you do not have a network
address, please include a surface mail address so that
information can be sent to you if your paper is accepted.
