SF Bed & Breakfast recommendations

If any of you lucky folks who are thinking of attending the San
Francisco USENIX would like to consider a little local color in your
accommodations, you may be interested to know that San Francisco has a
thriving Bed & Breakfast scene.

B&Bs, for those of you who haven't heard of them, are private homes or
small inns which offer a room and breakfast to travellers. They are
much friendlier and more interesting than anonymous hotels and cheaper
as well (in San Francisco, at any rate). The only compromise in terms
of comfort is that the bathroom is usually down the hall.

I've stayed at two B&Bs on recent trips to SF which were located in the
Haight-Ashbury/UCSF area and which would be easily accessible to the
Hilton by public transportation:

The Red Victorian, 1665 Haight St., 415-864-1978
Unicorn House, 156 Carl St., 415-753-5194

These two may fill up, but if they do they can probably refer you to
others. You should go ahead and try to make reservations early,
though.

[My only connection with these businesses is as a satisfied customer.]
