Things to Do in Baltimore Area

Approximately 150 miles from downtown Baltimore is the lovely resort
village of Chincoteague, VA. Some of you may remember reading
Margeret Henry's _Misty_, about Chincoteague wild ponies, reputed to be
the descendants of ponies which swam ashore from a 15th Century Spanish
shipwreck. Others may know about Chincoteague's famous oysters.

Chincoteague is as different from the other Maryland and Virginia seaside
resorts as UNIX and CP/M. The wonderful beach on Assateague Island is
totally undeveloped and is protected by the U.S. Department of the
Interior. Also, the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (through
which you must pass to get to the beach) is home for millions of local
and migratory birds, as well as other wildlife (including the wild ponies).

Within the old fishing/oystering village of Chincoteague, resort-type
development is happening, but it hasn't totally destroyed the place
yet. Happily, there are a good number of excellent restaurants, ranging
from family stype places to upscale eateries. (Avoid the Channel
Bass Inn unless you want to spend $100 a person!)

With respect to accomodations, there are a number of bed 'n breakfasts,
including "Miss Molly's" where _Misty_ was written. And (if it's not
to big an advertisement) I own a waterview townhouse, which is available
for short-term rentals.
