Who didn't make it?

Hmmm, looking over the list of candidates nominated by the nominating
committee, I can't help but notice that there is no academic faculty
listed  (although I know nothing about Evi Nemeth's position at U of CO).

I have no gripe with the candidates selected.  Those I know are fine
people, and I assume those I don't know are also highly qualified.
However, considering the number of academic members of Usenix,
including organizational members, it would seem to me that at least
1/4 of the candidates should be from academic environments.

Yes, I know that Marshall McKusick and Dan Klein are in quasi-academic
positions, but I believe there is a need for tenure-track-type faculty to be
involved.  With Usenix sponsoring more and more research-oriented
workshops, with scholarships and discounts being offered to students, 
with the research-oriented journal "Computing Systems", et. al., I
strongly believe there is a legitimate need for more academic
participation on the board.  Not dominant, but at least represented!
Heck, if Prisma can have 2 nominees, why not academia? :-)

I made this same complaint after the nominees were announced prior to
the last election.  I'll ask the question again: what is it about
teaching at the university level that makes people unqualified for the
Usenix board?

If the nominating committee contacted some of our
academically-oriented members about serving and were turned down, my
apologies.  If not, then why the hell not?
