TCP for the unix-pc

I've begun playing with the KA9Q TCP/IP/SLIP package. I'm testing it
by plugging it into a SUN running SLIP. It seems that the UNIXpc
really can't handle this very well. It connects nicely using
a number of applications, but any large transfers seem to kill
it (like incoming FTP).

I'm wondering if anyone is doing this sort of thing at reasonable
transfer rates (>= 4800 baud) with a significant degree of success.
If so, what parameters do you use when you set up the serial line
in the attach?
