Just reading the man page for mounting a tape as a filesystem. Have not
actually tried this myself, but know of no reason why this should not
work. By the way, here is an excerpt that may help:
-r Mount the specified filesystem read-only. This is shorthand for:
mount -o ro fsname dir
Physically write-protected and magnetic tape filesys-
tms must be mounted read-only, or errors occur when
access times are updated, whether or not any explicit
write is attempted.
