a nameserver problem

for various reasons we were experiencing problems with some of our nameservers
so I thought I would use the "hostresorder" keyword in the resolv.conf file.

Why is the follwing behaviour occuring (Irix 3.3.1)

ianh at morgana-> nslookup sgi.com
Server:  zaphod.resmel.bhp.com.au
Address:  134.18.1.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    sgi.com
Address:  192.48.153.1

ianh at morgana-> ping sgi.com
ping: sgi.com: Unknown host
ianh at morgana-> cat /usr/etc/resolv.conf
hostresorder local bind yp
domain     resmel.bhp.com.au
nameserver 134.18.1.1
nameserver 134.18.1.5

ianh at morgana->

I can see SGI.COM using nslookup. Clearly it is using my nameserver as
designated in resolv.conf, but why can't I ping it ??? Sure, sgi.com isn't
in my /etc/hosts file, but I thought that the "hostresorder" line would
have forced the use of BIND at this stage to get an address.

What am I missing . .... something really dumb I'm sure :-)
