University Ingres, SUG Tape, and 4.0?

Has anyone gotten the 1987 Sun Users Group tape copy of University Ingres
working on a SUN 3 running OS 3.5 or 4.0?  I had problems with floating
point constants not printing out properly under 3.5 and wondered if it was
worth compiling it under 4.0 or if there are any "fixes" available.
