YP Problem?

A client of ours is having a strange problem running our software, that
seems to be related to YP.  He loaded our software normally, but the
programs will only execute when run by a user who has a valid entry in the
machine's local /etc/passwd file.    If the authorization information is
retrieved from YP the programs fail (they core dump!).

We have other clients who run our software on configurations with YP.  Any
ideas?  Thanks.
