Printer queue problem

I am having problems setting up a print queue from my SparcStation to a
laser printer connected to a VaxStation GPX/II. I have set up the
necessary entries in /etc/printcap:

lp|ps|postscript|PostScript:\
	:lp=:rm=marvax:rp=lp:\
	:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/lp:

and also set up the /etc/hosts.equiv file.

The problem is that I can successfully print from the SparcStation the
first time, but immediately after that, on an lpq, I get this:

% lpq
no entries

watt: Warning: lp is down: sending to marvax
watt: Warning: lp queue is turned off

This is problem is removed only if I went into the spool directory, and
removed the 'lock' file manually. After that, the queue becomes normal
again:

% lpq
no entries

Does anyone have any idea why the SparcStation is doing this? I have
another Dec3100 connected on the ethernet, and i made the same changes to
the Dec3100, and the print queue on that side appears to work fine.

I deeply appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
