I Recently asked the following question:
|Hello SunLand. A simple question. Does the SunCD ROM media contain the
|SunOS4.1 68020 (3/50, 3/60) binaries or only 68030 (3/80) binaries (any
|difference really?). Please E-mail and I will post response. Thanks in
|advance, Ariel.
The answer in short is yes. Both are included. Here are the answers I
received with some more info. Thanks to all who answered. Ariel.

This CD_ROM contains the SunOS 4.1 binaries for Sun-3(TM), Sun-3x, Sun-4c
and most Sun-4(TM) systesms; and the SunOS 4.1 PSR A binaries for
SPARCserver(TM) 390, Sparcserver 470, and SPARCserver 490.

The SunCD can only be booted from a SPARC machine (sun4 or sun4c
architecture). It contains binaries for sun3 and sun3x architectures but
you need a SPARC to boot off that CD.

It's my understanding that the SunCD contains binaries for *all * s/w
architectures (Sun-3x vs. Sun-3, and Sun-4x, etc.) on all h/w
architectures (SPARC, mc68020, i386). So, one CD should be all you need.

The following files are different between the Sun-3 (68020) and Sun-3x
(68030) systems. The Sun-3 uses Sun's custom MMU, the Sun-3x uses
Motorola's on-chip MMU. The differences are in programs that know how to
create or follow page map entries. These files (and stuff in
/usr/share/sys/sun3x/{conf,OBJ}) are the ONLY differences between the
Sun-3 and Sun-3x releases.
