Help with HP laser jet series III

I am new at posting to news but I understand I might be able to solicit
some hlelp with following problem via mailing to you. Please let me know
if I am incorrect in this understanding.

My problem is:

I am attemting to hang an HP Laser Jet Series III printer off of a SUN
4/370 without successs. I have working filter and printcap entry for a
Series II hung off a 4/280 but when try to use it in the above situation
the first page printed comes out with a grey scale backround (very
expensive consumption of toner in addition to being an undesirable effect)
and some random font. Has anyone out there put this combination together ?
I am using one of the 4/370 9 pin tty ports for this but I don't cabling
is my problem as I have a tip line and plotter successfully hooked up to
other 2 9 pins ttys.

Releated to the above question, can anyone recommend a information source
on the meaning of the printcap flag fields (xs,xc, and fc and fs). 

Please respond to waterman at boulder.colorado.edu as I don't get time to
follow the news posting consistently.
