Characters lost while "stuffing" in GNU Emacs?

I have found that pasting into emacs using the mouse doesn't work well. If
you use the copy key (L6) to copy the selected text into the paste buffer,
then move the mouse pointer into the emacs window and use the paste key
(L8), it works much better.
