How are segment registers loaded?

How does one load a segment register. The Hardware Tech Ref General Information
talks a lot about them and what information one should contain, but nowhere
can I find how to load one. The assembler reference manual doesn't even
contain the words "segment register" according to infoexplorer. Any clues
out there?
