Ed> Under the ksh, you can use
Ed> PS1='${PWD}> '

Under csh this could be:
alias cd 'cd \!*;set prompt="`env LOGNAME`@`hostname`:$cwd> "'

Could be added to the FAQ... Don't move I'll send it to the person who proposed
to maintain the FAQ database.
