Backup by inode

I think that the answer to this question is no but:

Is there any way to do a backup by inode on an RS/6000
of only part of a file system?

We have news on its own partition, and we don't want
to back up all of it, we just want backups of our 
local news (we keep it for a semester for courses).
Please tell me that I don't have to do a backup by 
name (and thus, no incremental backups).
