updating to 3005

I have tried updating to 3005 on a 320 with 16Mb ram a 120 MB internal
disk and a 1GB external disk and an 8mm tape drive. I started off at
3003 build 18. When I started I had about 30 MB free in /usr and it is
maxxed out at 256 MB. I have info online.

I am a novice at system admin stuff. Anyways I did what the release
notes told me and it bombed trying to install the info files saying it
had run out of space, even though I told it to overwrite the files so
it should have had 95 + 30 free megabytes to play with. I redid it and
again the info files wouldn't fly, but everything else did just fine.

When I was done I was at 3005, but info was completely clobbered.
I restrored all of /usr/lpp/info from backup. I had man pages again
but info would come up with the message can't find database nav in
config file (nav was there).

IBM told me to reinstall from my original tape. Same thing happened,
bombed complaining of running out of space and then just freaked out.

Again my man pages were gone, but not all of info was clobbered. Again
I reinstalled /usr/lpp/info from backup.

Now magically info works again, but I am at 3003 info.

IBM says that now I should reload the entire 3005 from scratch, I am a
bit loathe to do this since a) I have 3005 for everything but info
b) I have done some customization that I don't particullarly want to
redo.

Anyone have an idea (this happen to anyone else)
