We would appreciate anyone to help us with the following problem.

Lately we installed a new release of AIX v3.1 (3003) on our RS6000 system.
A day later the system crashed. After a shutdown -F it would not boot anymore.
However, after performing a shutdown -Fr, no special problems were encountered.

The operating system had to be reinstalled. Now our problem is that we had two
external hard disks (670Mb removable) connected to the machine, which were
installed under the rootvg volume group. After the reinstallation of the
Operating System (on the internal disks only) the system couldn't access the
data on the external disks anymore.

Does anyone know how to recover this data or has anyone ever had the same
problem?

I tried the SMIT options "Add a disk with data" but this gave a memory fault

With thanks for any information,
