Timing of AIX System Calls:

I am posting this question on behalf of some of the people who work on the
RS/6000's doing application programming. We are involved in building a
real-time transaction processing system, and would like to know if anyone
has timing information on the following calls:

  msgnsnd, msgrcv
  kill
the various flavors of semaphore operations
and the time needed to switch to a signal handler and back

Also, is there anything in the system set-up or configuratioon that would affect
these times. The results being encountered seemed long to the developers, and
they were wondering if some sort of logging was being done by AIX.

Lastly, the AIX manuals say that msgnsnd and msgrcv should not be used within
a signal handler, but they are getting along just fine with short messages.
Does anyone know of any problems, or why the warning is in there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
