[....problems with accessing com2]

Thanks to all of you who responded, I was able to fix the COM2 problem by
modifying the file: /etc/conf/sdevice.d/asy file and adding a line:
asy	Y	1	7	1	3	2f8	2ff	0	0
and followed this by a kconfig to build a new kernel based on this change.
All of this went through with no problems, but when I then tried to access
this serial port by a terminal hard-wired to that one, I had a few
problems. I get the "Welcome to the INTERACTIVE ...." message and it
then waits for me to type in my login name. I type in 'gorpong' followed
by return, and the disk whirrs a little and it gives me the GETTY again.
I do a ps -ef just at the same time I hit <RETURN> on the terminal and I
see a 'login gorpong' process attached to that terminal. Therefore, it
seems that the login program is hanging up before it is asking for the
password. What have I done wrong? I'm sure this is all in the manual,
but my eyes are so bloodshot right now from reading them, I'm glossing
over the important parts (anyone see Andromeda Strain lately? ;-)

I apologize for wasting the bandwidth on something which I am too ignorant
to figure out, but I cannot figure it out, I cannot find the answer, and
I've queried the net on quite a few occasions and it has yet to let me
down. Thank you very much for any help you can give me. I really appreciate
it.
