In responce to your Question #2, SCO does have an SLS patch to fix
some problems with the Irwin Tape drivers in Unix 2.3.0.  Actually
it provides you with a separate driver written by Irwin.

I *Think* it is called unx002, I don't see that it is available via
sosco so you may have to call them :-)

We (HP) re-sell the SCO product with this SLS in the package, we found
their driver to be buggy also.
