On some systems, at least on AT&T 3b2 machines, /etc/ps_data is rebuilt
at boot time. In /etc/rc.d I belive, a ps > /dev/null is run while
the machine is coming up. I would think that the kernel configuration
would affect the time needed to rebuild /etc/ps_data. Have you any
major differences in kernel configuration?
