I haven't had experience with this stupid Bell Tech ROM
problem, but I can tell you that Microport's Unix tape
driver, and the built-in tape driver that comes with Release
3.1 from AT&T will work with either the stock Everex 831
controller OR the Everex controller with the Bell Tech Rom.

If you can find a commercially available ksh for Microport, go
ahead and buy it with the knowledge that at least as far as
ksh (and lots of other binaries go), stuff that works on uport
will work on Bell Tech unix will work on Interactive unix will
work on Release 3.1.

Good luck in your search.
