looking for uniformly distributed (0..1] random number generator

There are lots of things to consider in selecting a good random number
generator. However, there are a couple of good CACM articles that really
helped us, and they can help you, too. Here's the ref to the one we use:

"Efficient and Portable Combined Random Number Generators", Pierre L'Ecuyer,
Communications of the ACM, Vol. 31, No. 6 (June 1989).
