Advice: good symbolc debugger for Unix?

I've seen what seems like that VMS DEBUG style on UNIX in the form of
GDB under GNU Emacs. [see newsgroups gnu.gdb.* etc.]

GDB etc. is FTPable from prep.ai.mit.edu.
