We are going to buy an HP9000/840 machine sometime later this year. Is
there anybody out there on the net with experience of this machine?
I would be grateful to receive some information on the following
subjects. I will summarize the responses to the net.

1) Has anybody ported GNU Emacs, TeX, news software, hack, and other
public domain or free software to it?

2) Do you have any experience of the Pascal compiler, and especially
its compatibility with the Pascal/1000 compiler? (yes, we are now
using an HP1000. No flames about Pascal or HP1000, please, I like C
and Unix more, too...)

3) How compatible is (its version of) HP-UX with BSD 4.{2,3}? I know
it is supposed to be SVID compatible.

4) I think (hope) that we will NOT have to use the Port/UX and RTE
emulation stuff at all to port our software, but tell me what your
experiences are.

Any other pieces of advice or words of warning are of course also
welcome.

Thanks in advance,
