feedback on Fuji Super Eagle drive

Last summer, our lab installed two Fujitsu M2361 (Super Eagle) disk
drives on our Vax 11/780 4.2bsd system. Two other departments installed
a total of three of these same drives on MicroVax systems. Less than one
year later, all but one of these 5 drives has become unusable with
unrecoverable ECC errors. One of the drives has been replaced; the
replacement drive has also failed. Our drives share an Emulex SC7002
controller-- one drive failed, the other is humming along. (ie I don't
think it is a controller problem.) We have a lot of trouble believing
that this is some strange, local phenomena...

I am very interested in hearing what experiences others have had with this
drive. Notice that I have not
mentioned what well-known vendor we bought these drives from. I would
be interested in that detail from others, however, and would be glad
to discuss more specifics in one-to-one mail with others.

Please send any responses direct to me. I will summarize for anyone who
is interested. Thanks.
