The most efficient in terms of starting processes would be the following:

    alias l. 'set dotfiles = `echo .?*` ; echo $dotfiles[2-]'

So typing "l." would give a short list of all . files in a directory and
typing "ls -l $dotfiles[2-]" would give you the long format.
