Installing Ultrix 4.0 on DECstation 5000 w/non-DEC disk

We're attempting to install Ultrix 4.0 on a DECstation 5000/200 (PX)
on a non-DEC disk.  We can get to the point where we are asked which
subsets we want to install, answer the question, and it starts
the install.  It installs the base system (UDTBASE400), and during
the verify, we get

setld:
There were verification errors for Base System (UDTBASE400)

We've tried this on both a Wren IV (300mb) and Wren VI (650mb), and it's
failed the same way on both.  There's no indication as to what the 
verification error was.

Has anyone been successful in installing Ultrix 4.0 on a non-DEC disk?
We've had the same problem with Ultrix 3.1D also.  We have been able to
install Ultrix 3.1D on a Wren V and a Maxtor LXT-200 with no problems
(we don't have one of either of those to try with Ultrix 4.0 right now),
but the Wren IV and Wren VI just won't work for us.
