Using serial port on VS3100

We have a VaxStation 3100 running Ultrix 3.0 (we'll be upgrading to 4.1 in
a few weeks), and would like to make use of the serial port on the back of
the CPU. It appears to be an RJ-11 or RJ-4 type connector, and is next to
a similar port for a printer.

We've been unable to determine the device name for this port from the
documentation supplied with the system. Could someone give us information
on the device name to use under Ultrix, and how to make use of that port as
an outbound line (i.e., we do not care to run a getty on that line). Are
there any changes that need to be made to the kernel, e.g., to change the
flags for that device? Pointers to the correct volume of documentation
would be helpful too.

Email to

	gort at cc.rochester.edu (John Simonson)
	kenr at cc.rochester.edu (Ken Rich)

is preferred, but a follow-up posting to this group is fine, as we read
it fairly regulary.

Thanks in advance for any help.
