setld hangs

i'm having a problem with 'setld' on a DECstation 5000 running ULTRIX 4.1 when
trying to extract '-x' or load '-l' software setld hangs...i've tried running
in debug mode 'sh5 -x setld -l /dev/rmt1h' and the problem appears to be that
setld is waiting for a process it created to terminate...this process never
terminates, so setld sits there waiting...if i manually kill the process it's
waiting for, setld continues on it's merry way until the next wait of a process
termination...i can extract the information off of our other DECstations with
no problem, so it's not the tape, and i've extracted on another DECstation and
copied to disk on the problem system, ran setld against the disk files and the
same problem occurs...

any clues would be appreciated...
