All existing non-minicomputer systems are memory poor.
A PDP11/70 or VAX-11/750 can only handle 2Mbyte,
a VAX-11/780 or Cray1 only 8Mbyte, an IBM370 only 64Mbyte, etc.
A 100Mbyte memory for a VAX-11/780 presents no
electrical, thermal, or mechanical engineering problems,
would cost less than a 32Kword full house for an IBM7094
[memory was $1/bit], and can be effectively utilized.
For a moderately fast machine, a 1Gbyte memory is not
out of the question.

Since reasonably-sized memories are not on the market,
solid-state paging fills an important void.
