^D becomes wierd letters on an LA-120

Interestingly enough I have a similar problem with my system, I'm running the
UCLA tty driver and when I type ^D I get 4 random letters (instead of '(EOF)').
This only happens on the console not on my DZ-11's or my DL-11E's.
