trouble with ABLE DH/DM

We've just gotten some Able DH/DM boards to replace our DZ's.  When we
installed them, they interrupted at boot time, the getty's are running,
but we can't talk to them.  Each terminal line gets a login banner when
the system boots to multi-user, but we get no response after that.  Can
anyone suggest anything we  might be doing wrong?

We're running 4.1BSD on a VAX 11/780.
