NFS Security

This discussion has pretty much ignored NFS using DES authentication.
I must admit that I only gave the protocol spec a cursory reading,
but the approach looks quite sound to me.  Furthermore, this security
mechanism is available to other services besides NFS.

Does anyone who has looked at this system carefully care to comment?
