autoconfigure vpr on vax

Help!

I am trying to get a versatec device driver built for 4.3.
All goes well in the compile/link steps, but during bootup
in the autoconfigure i get the following message when trying
to configure the vp.

The board i have is a Versatec controller model 121, factory strapping.
If i configure my system for a lp, everything autoconfigures fine, 
which makes me think that the board is ok since i tried two other boards
with the same results.
