question about packet mode in BSD pty's

Here is an internals question for you gurus:

Background:
	BSD 4.3 Unix
reading from controlling pty in packet mode with 2 reads.
(i.e. telnetd) One to read the packet type byte,
and the other to read the data.

Question:
What happens if the second read is interrupted with a signal?
Does the next read return the packet type byte again, or
the data portion of that packet?

	Is this well defined?

Please e-mail responses. If anyone is interested, I'll forward
the mail I get.

... Erik
