Are we the only ones having trouble with restore -r ?

Whenever we have to restore a filesystem from backup tapes, and that's
pretty often, as anyone who owns DEC RA-81 disk drives knows, we find
that the file ownerships are all scrambled.  Seems like we've tried this
with restore programs right off the distribution tapes to be sure it
isn't some local hack causing the problem.  Does anybody else have
this problem, or are we doing something mysteriously wrong?
