Increasing limit of 10 simultaneous TCP/IP 'sessions'?

We are running the standard SCO TCP/IP offering under Xenix 2.3.2 on a
386/20 clone. It appears that the default number of 'sessions' permitted
with this package is ten, i.e. the sum of simultaneous active telnet, ftp,
smtp, nntp, etc sessions is less than or equal to 10. This means that if
there are say 5 smtp sessions active (quite common) only 5 users can be
logged on. Alternatively, if there are 10 users logged on via telnet,
no mail delivery take place. Please correct me if this analysis is
wrong...

Two queries about this:

1 - would there be a problem if this limit were increased? To qualify
this query, our system is used mainly for electronic mail (elm) and
news reading (cnews and nn). It also acts as a mail (smtp/smail3.0)
and news (nntp) forwarder, and an anonymous FTP repository. The only
'development' work that takes place is the infrequent installation
of these and other packages. What I suppose I am trying to say is
that the system is lightly loaded most of the time.

2 - what parameters need to be changed to increase this limit? The
manual(s) are fairly inexplicit on this point - either that, or
I am reading the wrong ones :-).

Thanks in advance for any opinions and/or advice.
