getty going away under SCO Xenix

Is the PID of the getty changing?  My guess first guess is that you've
got a babbling getty problem.  The `uuchat' is called when getty starts
up to initialize the modem line.  Be very sure that you've got an
`E0' in the modem initialization string.  I've also seen problems caused
by `AT' in the /etc/gettydefs signon banner.
