Dial-in and Dial-out on the same line - SOLVED

I have now got my bidirectional line problem solved and working.

In my last posting I said that I had tried to use the original version of
getty, but it wouldn't run. On investigating further I found that it needed
serializing. After some more poking about I discovered how to serialize it.

So, to sum up -

The getty supplied with the International Supplement to Xenix System V 386
Version 2.3.2 is broken. It won't allow bidirectional use of a
dial-in/dial-out line.

To cure this, use custom to reload getty from your distribution floppies, NOT
the International Supplement. It is on floppy N2 if you are using 3.5" disks.
Then use /etc/brand to serialize it, by typing
  /etc/brand serial_number activation_key /etc/getty
substituting (of course) your appropriate values for serial number and
activation key.

Once again thanks to all who took the trouble to answer my original query.
It makes the world seem a more friendly place.

Regards
Andy Michael
