Tape drive - no device

I have just installed a Xenix system on my Vectra RS/25 (awesome machine!!).
I am new to Xenix, so correct me if I am wrong.

My tape drive came with tape driver software that had to be
linked into the kernel. After loading the software, I used
a utility called "mkdev tape". This is a standard function
in Xenix and should make "/dev/rmt0" and "/dev/rmtmini"
device files.

If this doesn't work, you should look at the man page
on "fixperm". Fixperm with the "-c" option will also make
these files but the tape driver must reside in the kernel
for the drive to work.
